BV Chicago and Epitonic SXSW 2013 Day Party Announced

The good folks at BV Chicago have partnered with Epitonic to put on a completely free SXSW day party. This event takes place on two stages at Barbarella Patio and Swan Dive. Included amidst the lineup are JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, The End of America (who we recently covered in last week’s Song Reader event at the Sonos Studio here in LA), WHY?, Ume and The Besnard Lakes. Why? Oh, Why?

It’s been merely a couple of months since WHY? dropped their EP Sod in the Seed, but the boys are back again, this time releasing a full LP of material in Mumps, Etc. Yoni Wolf once again uses WHY? as a guise to therapeutically exorcise his demons of depression, and perhaps that is where the problem lies. One thing that always made a WHY? album stand out was Wolf’s penchant for clever metaphors and not so politically correct allegories, and on Mumps. Etc., those are few and far between. Read more…

Why?’s Jonathan ‘Yoni’ Wolf is an “alt rapper” with enough wit and tact to pull the “backpacker” genre of hip-hop straight from the ashes of the indie rap game. The three-piece outfit has recently dropped the EP, Sod in the Seed, a seamless melding of quirky, Darwin Deez-like pop and wordy, dictionary-busting rhymes a la Blackalicious. Why does this album work? Unlike the rap/rock gimmicks of yesteryear, Why? aims at being honest and unique without exploiting the cliches of the hip-hop and indie rock. Read more…

Treefort Music Festival Announce 2012 Lineup Featuring of Montreal, Built to Spill and Why?

Treefort Music Festival has announced their 2012 lineup, which contains over 120 acts.  The music festival takes place March 22-25 in downtown Boise, Idaho and will feature headliners Built to Spill, of Montreal, WHY?, Blitzen Trapper, and AraabMUZIK, amongst others.
