Thoughtful EP Shows Beautiful Restraint
Ilan Rubin is a one-man army. Best known by Nine Inch Nails fans as Trent Reznor’s drummer extraordinaire and a returning player to the industrial rockers’ string of festival dates, Rubin had a hand in fellow moody bands Paramore, LostProphets and supergroup Angels & Airwaves. Under his solo moniker The New Regime, he’s a player of all instruments, an expert arranger and composer crafting what may become your new favorite album until the next Exhibit rolls around. Exhibit A is a sturdy introduction to the inner workings of one of rock’s most prolific multi-instrumentalists. The tightly wound EP unravels spools of minimalist electronics, rich harmonies, and varied textures that are thicker than a wool coat.

Going Along for the Pride
Ilan Rubin could not have hoped for a better situation under which to imagine and compose Speak Through the White Noise, the sophomore album from The New Regime. Rubin has been the drummer for Nine Inch Nails since the age of 17, when he replaced Josh Freese in 2008. Some of this album’s tracks were penned or conceived during NIN’s tour with Jane’s Addiction, and the ’90s influence is clear. Noise, however, is not without currency. Read more…

They are taking over the airwaves and overthrowing what was once believed to be popular music. This totalitarian project by Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin is amazingly written and preformed. The battle mystique put out by TNR on COUP is perfectly evident not only in the song titles but in the cover art as well. Picking up this album, you know what you are in for with the portrait of what seems to be someone dead after signing an important document. Graphic, but none the less effective. Read more…
