The Knife to Release Opera Tomorrow In A Year

With the digital album release set for February 2nd, and the phyical album out March 9th, The Knife is unleashing the studio version of the opera Tomorrow, In A Year in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock.  Originally commissioned by the Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma, the opera is based on Charles Darwin and his book On the Origin of Species, “to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme.” Read more…

Fever Ray’s Sweden Show is a Free Download This Weekend

Earlier today we reported that Karin Dreijer-Andersson would reissue the debut album from her solo project Fever Ray with special packaging and extra material including remixes, videos, and a live performance. The website for Britain’s Guardian newspaper is in fact offering MP3 files from that show—a March 2009 concert from Lulea, Sweden—as a free download now through midnight Monday, October 26. Cabin Fever

As one half of acclaimed electro duo The Knife, Karin Dreijer Andersson thrives on theatrics. She and brother Olaf craft dense atmospheres laced with morbid, obscure lyrics, while their live shows find them shrouded in darkness, covered in face paint, flanked by ominous singing puppets. On her eponymous solo debut as Fever Ray, Andersson steps out of her self-imposed shadows with more personal songwriting and more organic instrumentation. While not too far removed from her Silent Shouts of yesteryear, it still brings its own distinct, otherworldly chill to the air. Read more…
