Matthew Caws (guitar, vocals), Ira Elliot (drums, backup vocals), Doug Gillard (lead guitar) and Daniel Lorca (bass, backup vocals) make up the indie rock group Nada Surf. Formed in 1992, the band began as Caws and Lorca. The two had met at the Lycée Français de New York. Dan, the band’s original drummer, was replaced by Aaron Conte, who would eventually be replaced by Elliot in 1995.
Their first release The Plan/Telescope came out in 1994 off of Stickboy. At that time they also recorded a demo name, Tafkans. The band’s next release Deeper Well/Pressure Free came out in 1995 off of Deep Elm Records. They released Karmic EP off of Elecktra Records’s No. 6 Records after that. The band began negotiations with Elektra Records, but the band ended up signing to Maverick Records. Their album High/Low came out in 1996. Two years later they released The Proximity Effect. The album self-released the album in the US in 2000 through their own label MarDev. In 2002 the band released Let Go. Their next album The Weight Is a Gift came out in 2005 off of Barsuk Records. It was followed by Lucky in 2008. The band released If I Had a Hi-Fi in 2010 and The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy in 2012. For their latest release, Doug Gillard joined the band as a guitarist. The band also released The Dulcitone Files EP that year.

I have four words for you: FREE SHOW. NADA SURF.
…if those four short words aren’t enough to convince you to show up at Amoeba on the 30th, I don’t know what will. I mean, these indie veterans have been around for long enough for you to realize that this appearance is sure draw a huge crowd, not to mention the fact that it’s being held to promote their brand new album The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy that just dropped yesterday. If you buy a copy, you’ll have perfect signing material after the show AND receive a free limited-edition EP The Dulcitone Files (acoustic takes on tracks from the new album).
I’m making this post short and to the point because I feel like there’s not much convincing that needs to be made. So…yeah. 6PM*. January 30th. Amoeba. NADA F*CKING SURF. I’ll see you there.
*I’d show up early if I were you. And it’s not like there isn’t anything for you to look at/listen to while you wait.
**Oh and in case you show up and (God forbid) don’t get in, they’re playing a show on March 20th at Music Box. Tickets are $25 + service fees and can be bought here.
