Outside Lands Day 2: Metallica, Grandaddy, Explosions in the Sky, Father John Misty

Whether it was just good luck, good scheduling or just something in the air, day two’s acts were a far better selection of performances. This day felt more like a question of what were the best acts to see rather than what was worth seeing at all. Numerous bands were quite literally floating right on the tip of audience member’s tongues. Alabama Shakes for example, could be heard mentioned all throughout the day, and when it was time for them to perform, the crowd was monstrous. Playing at the Sutro Stage, the audience was almost an impassible mess. The crowd stretched on throughout the mini valley where the Sutro Stage was set up, while the band’s lead singer Brittany Howard belted out each song.

Outside Lands Festival Announces 2012 Lineup Featuring Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Jack White and More

Orion Music + More Announces Lineup

Metallica is Joined By Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Dave Mustaine, Jason Newsted and Original Lineup Members for Final Night of 30th Anniversary Event

This past Saturday in San Francisco, the original members of Metallica shared the stage with Black Sabbath legends Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. The concert, held at the Fillmore, was the fourth and ultimate concert put on specifically for their fan club members.

Ride the Frightening

On paper, a collaboration between Lou Reed, the godfather of art-rock, and Metallica, the kings of thrash metal makes little sense. Their underwhelming 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance of “Sweet Jane” gives scant insight as to why these legends thought they were a natural match. But 70-plus years of combined music experience and Hall of Fame credentials have earned them the benefit of the doubt. The artists’ own fervent endorsement of the project also gives credence to approaching Lulu with an open mind. Read more…
