Jenny Lewis is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actress from Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the primary vocalist of the indie rock band Rilo Kiley, and has released three solo albums. She currently performs as part of the duo Jenny & Johnny with her boyfriend Johnathan Rice. She has released three solo albums, 2006’s Rabbit Fur Coat (with The Watson Twins), 2008’s Acid Tongue, and 2014’s The Voyager.
Her first album, Rabbit Fur Coat, reached number six on the Top Independent albums chart, and number 88 on the Billboard 200 in 2006. The album was promoted on her first solo tour across the nation. Lewis also appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Her follow up album, Acid Tounge, reached number 24 on the Billboard 200.
Her latest album, The Voyager, is her highest charter album to date. It reached number nine on the Billboard 200, number two on the Top Alternative Albums, three on the Top Tastemaker Albums, and five on the Top Rock Albums chart. Lewis spoke to the Rolling Stone about the album and stated, “Making The Voyager got me through one of the most difficult periods of my life. After Rilo Kiley broke up and a few really intense personal things happened, I completely melted down. It nearly destroyed me. I had such severe insomnia that, at one point, I didn’t sleep for five straight nights. Many of the songs on The Voyager came out of the need to occupy my mind in the moments when I just couldn’t shut down.”

Jenny Lewis is known for her role as the leading lady of Rilo Kiley. Bandmates Blake Sennett, Dave Rock and Pierre De Reeder formed the band with Lewis in 1998. Jason Bosel eventually replaced Rock. Together they wrote two records. Their debut More Adventurous came out in 2004, after the band was signed by Warner Brothers’s imprint Brute/Beaute Records. It was followed up by Under the Blacklight which was released in 2007 off of Warner Brothers itself. In 2011 the band broke up.
Lewis had begun a solo career in 2004, recording Rabbit Fur Coat. The record was released in 2006 and includes the track “Portions for Foxes.” Chandra and Leigh Watson, better known as The Watson Twins, worked with Lewis on the album and toured with her after its release. Her second album Acid Tongue came out in two years later. Most recently Lewis released The Voyager. The album came out in 2014 and includes the single “One of the Boys.” Her first release was on Conor Oberst’s Team Love, but Lewis moved to Warner Brother/Rough Trade for her second album and finally Warner Brothers for her third.

Get Up and Over It
Rilo Kiley is dead and it’s time for us all to get over it! Sure, as a group they had an excellent run and an inexplicable penchant for bridging the gap between indie rock and radio-worthy tunes, but the grieving period has lasted way too long. Luckily, frontwoman Jenny Lewis is still here to help us all with that, and her power-pop album The Voyager provides a bevy of upbeat, indie rock anthems to help us get over it all. Read more…
