Jenny Lewis, who was scheduled to play nine shows across the state of California this month, was forced to reschedule all dates after a family emergency on Monday. Two of the shows scheduled were benefits for the Bridge School. All nine shows were scheduled to be solo shows, a change from her recent tours with boyfriend Jonathan Rice as “Jenny and Johnny”. People seemed surprised that Rilo Kiley lead singer Jenny Lewis would strike out on her own, but they were probably even more surprised to see how amazing Rabbit Fur Coat (2006) and Acid Tongue (2008) turned out. She’ll continue to shock the naysayers with her new Jenny and Johnny project and their debut I’m Having Fun Now, but what’s nerve-wracking is that Jonathan Rice (”Johnny”), her boyfriend and now full-time collaborator, seems poised for heartbreak. Jenny and Johnny, the newly formed group from couple Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley fame) and Johnathan Rice put on an informal giveaway and signing today at the Mollusk Surf Shop in the heart of Venice Beach in Los Angeles. Announced via the group’s Twitter account, there were minimal details available. However, to the delight of about twenty or so fans, both Jenny and Johnny were present and happily posed for photos with fans and signed autographs. At the surf shop they gave away stickers promoting the duo’s upcoming album I’m Having Fun Now and a limited edition cassette of album track “Big Wave.” Fans can most likely expect more of the same, so be sure and follow the group on Twitter.
