In a previous story, we reported about Damon Albarn’s interview with The Guardian that seemed to hint at the possible demise of Blur and Gorillaz, but today we happily report that new information seems to contradict this original sentiment. Although nothing is for sure, Albarn’s recent interview with Metro gives Blur and Gorillaz’ fans a shimmering ounce of hope.

Damon Albarn, one of Britain’s most prolific musicians, has hinted at the possible demise of both Gorillaz and Blur. It’s a shame really, since this year we saw a revitalization in both bands via Blur’s Brit Awards performance and Gorillaz’ collaboration with Andre 3000 and James Murphy. Although these instances might have led fans to believe that both acts were alive and healthy, Albarn’s recent interview with the Guardian has nipped these assumptions at the bud.

In case you hadn’t heard, the Gorillaz have put out a new song called “DoYaThing” featuring Andre 3000 and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem as a part of Converse’s “Three Artists. One Song” project. An MP3 download of the Gorillaz’ newest sneaker-inspired track, “DoYaThing” is now available for download. The track was created as part of a Converse’s “Three Artists. One Song” series, and is available for free download after the jump. The 13-minute track coincides with a Gorillaz-designed sneaker line and a forthcoming animated video, due out on February 29.

A Western, Congolese Celebration
In July of 2011, Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz traveled to Kinshasa to create a musical project that would fuse Western music with traditional and contemporary African culture. With ten other producers and local Congolese musicians like Tout Puissant Mukalo and Nelly Liyemge, Albarn formed DRC Music (Democratic Republic of Congo Music) and recorded Kinshasa One Two in an impressive seven days, solely in Congo. DRC Music, the collective of music producers founded by Damon Albarn (Gorillaz, Blur), have announced that they will release their upcoming album Kinshasa One Two digitally via Warp Records on October 4 with a CD/Vinyl release following on November 8. The proceeds will benefit the work of Oxfam in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
