Dynamic Duo
The self-titled debut album from Broken Bells has a quiet kind of charm. It’s subtle, winding through a diverse repertoire of layered vocal harmonies and constantly shifting sheets of instrumentation. On Saturday, The Mog Party is clearly the place to be. What looked like a two-hour line formed at the front door as hundreds hoped for a chance to view the party’s stellar lineup. Early on, the newly launched Broken Bells (Danger Mouse and James Mercer from The Shins) backed by a full band, played what could arguably be considered their sixth show. Danger Mouse led the band on drums while Mercer played guitar and sweetly sang. The band’s lush instrumentation was intact, and Mercer helped each song reach chilled-out levels of smooth. The band shows promise on every level, but for those curious, their performance felt a bit stagnant, as if they haven’t quite been able to perfect their chemistry onstage chemistry yet. The full set list is below:
Vaporize
October
The High Road
The Ghost Inside
The Doors
Citizen
4 Leaf Rover
Mongrel Heart
The Mall and Misery
