On Half of Where You Live, Gold Panda’s latest release via Ghostly International, the transient producer continues to refine his melody-based approach to electronic music. Appropriating some of the sound-collage tendencies of contemporaries like Flying Lotus and Bonobo, Derwin Powers newest tracks makes forays into a variety of dance music genres without sounding derivative. It’s a balancing act that carries over to his live show, which will be hitting the dance-ready floors of Metro in October.

Laid back folk-rocker Jack Johnson is returning with a new LP From Here To Now To You on September 17th but on September 5th he will embark on a world tour with ambitious intentions. Johnson aims to play in historic theaters with 100% of the profits generated going to charity.

Tickets will be available at Jack’s website via lottery, so every fan can have an equal opportunity of getting seats. From June 17th to June 24th fans can enter to purchase up to four tickets. Winners will be chosen on the 24th and will contacted via email.

Scottish Indie-rock group Frightened Rabbit are set to tour North America this Fall. They are touring in support of their new album Pedestrian Verse which came out in February of this year. Horror-master Rob Zombie is taking the Halloween season up a notch. He is hosting a Great American Nightmare featuring state of the art haunted attractions and some of the world’s high profile metal and EDM acts. The Great American Nightmare will be every Thursday-Sunday between October 10th and November 2nd at the FEARplex (also known as the Fairplex) in Pomona, California.

The event will feature attractions based on Rob Zombie’s movies in an interactive and intense 3-D experience. The attractions are called Lords of Salem Total Blackout, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto 3D and Haunt of 1,000 Corpses and are designed to ignite thrills. There will also be 15 nights of music featuring bands like Andrew WK, BL3ND, Blood On The Dance Floor, Dirtyloud, Dirtyphonics, Doctor P, Emilie Autumn, Evol Intent, Fei-Fei, Goldfinger, Heavygrinder, Kottonmouth Kings, Metalachi, One More Time, Ozomatli, Reel Big Fish, Terravita, The Used, Twiztid, William Control and Zomboy.

More acts are expected to be announced but you can find more information including ticket sales at the Great American Nightmare website. Tickets go on sale on June 29th at low price $30.

During Game five of the NBA Finals Jay-Z aired a commercial announcing his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail. This will be Jay-Z’s first album since 2009’s The Blueprint 3. In the commercial Jay was in studio with Rick Rubin, Pharrell, Swizz Beats and Tmbaland. You can watch the trailer below.

Some Kind of Awesome reports Samsung has already purchased one million copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail to release it as an App on June 24th. It will be available worldwide on July 4th.

On June 14th Atoms For Peace performed an intimate show named “Club Amok” at L.A’s Fais Do-Do. The gig was described as a rehearsal for the upcoming tour but they were not without passion. At one point, during unreleased song “The Present Tense,” Yorke yelled at someone in the crowd for talking loudly. At that point Yorke was on stage performing solo and acoustic. You can watch him perform “The Present Tense” plus other songs like “Rabbit In Your Headlights,” “Reverse Running,” and “Unless” below (via Spin).

Camera Obscura of Glasgow had a successful run a SXSW in Austin after nearly four years having passed since their 4AD debut, the excellent My Maudlin Career. Their new album Desire Lines, recorded last December when the band decamped to Portland to work with GRAMMY nominated producer Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Spoon, My Morning Jacket) is calmer yet still mellifluous. Camera Obscura have a busy year of touring ahead of them and to add to a handful of festival dates and a run in North America with She & Him already announced. Check them out this Wednesday!

The birth of a unique new SF band was quietly announced on Facebook last week. Sea Lioness, a quintet featuring Travis Woodland and Steven Medd of Cannons and Clouds, was introduced along with the video for their first public release “Elmira” in a post on the latter band’s FB page. Sea Lioness sounds little like “Frisco sludge folk” and centers around Woodland’s soaring voice and piano, a few moments of beautiful vocal harmony, and some playful djembe work by Medd and Lowe.
