Reports are going around that Weezer’s forthcoming eighth album has received its name from a sponsorship by surf company Hurley. In a recent interview (which you can view yourself after the jump), guitarist Brian Bell implied that Weezer decided to name the album Hurley because the company had funded the recording of the album. This does not jive with frontman Rivers Cuomo’s earlier comments that the inspiration for the title came from a picture of Jorge Garcia, who plays the character Hurley on the hit TV series Lost. A San Jose, CA resident was killed Thursday in an apparent suicide attempt at a Swell Season concert being held at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA. The victim, one Edward Pickels, 32, reportedly leapt from the venue’s three-story roof to the stage while the band was setting up for their next song. Read more…

Gorillaz have announced their first-ever world tour, which will see them go out in support of their latest album, Plastic Beach. The tour will see the genre-defying supergroup (including Clash members Mick Jones and Paul Simonon) perform across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and will feature the multi-media experience for which the group is known. The group has also announced the release of the “Escape to Plastic Beach” video game, available on the iPhone and iPad.
