Red Bull 30 Days in LA Day 1 : Cut Copy, Gemini Club and Wrestlers

Day 1 of 30 of the #30DaysInLA concert series hosted by RedBull Music kicked off this past Saturday. Headlining act Cut Copy performed alongside openers The Gemini Club and Wrestlers, keeping the party going taking over the back lot of the The Luxe Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles going well into the night. A-Trak and friends stopped by Los Angeles for the annual Fool’s Gold Day Off 2014 at the Shrine Expo yesterday. TokiMonsta performed with DJ’s Mike Gao, Clicks & Whistles, MNDR in celebration of the release of her new album Half Shadows at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles, hosted by Han Cholo and Love Made.  Gavin Turek also joined TokiMonsta onstage to provide vocals on some of their collaborative work together.

Photos: Flying Lotus Live at Club Nokia with Adrian Younge Presents Venice Dawn, and Gas Lamp Killer

On the last leg of his first bus tour and back in his hometown of Los Angeles, Flying Lotus and friends Adrian Younge, and Gas Lamp Killer performed for the packed house at Club Nokia. With Gas Lamp Killer’s contagious energy, the inviting soulful sounds of Adrian Younge’s band Venice Dawn, and Flying Lotus’ breathtaking and seemingly 3D performance (with visuals provided by Dr. StrangeLoop), the concert goers were witness to a hodge podge of innovative sounds provided by a full cast of hometown heroes.

On August 18th and 19th, the city of San Bernardino played host for one of the largest hip-hop festivals of the year, Rock The Bells presented by Guerilla Union. Band of Skulls and Raphael Saadiq Live at KCRW’s Who Shot Rock & Roll Event at The Annenberg Space for Photography (Review, Photos, Setlist)

As the beautiful Los Angeles summer continues, KCRW held one more event to celebrate the opening of the Who Shot Rock & Roll photo exhibit at The Annenberg Space for Photography. Those with us regularly might remember that we previously covered Portugal. The Man’s headlining performance at the space and a few weeks before that the opening kick-off event featuring a double-header from Moby. For this final event Band of Skulls and Raphael Saadiq rocked the stage backed by KCRW DJ Anne Litt spinning in between sets. Notably, Band of Skulls made this headlining performance flying in directly from Lollapalooza in Chicago, performing there the previous night. The whole event was billed as “A night of music celebrating Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan,” a massive benefit album for Amnesty International which both bands contributed a Bob Dylan cover for. Photos: Azealia Banks Presents The Mermaid Ball

Dubbed “Fantasea” by signage and by Azealia Banks herself, the underwater themed party brought the likes of an all-girl performance roster including Gita, Maluca, Rye Rye, Charli XCX, and Azealia Banks with host Brooke Candy and a special appearance by Robyn. With balloons, mermaid dancers, a costume contest, and an over-the-top energetic performance of “212,” the show proved to the eclectic crowd that Azealia knows how to throw a ball. Read more…
