Morrissey Insists On the Staples Center Becoming 100% Vegetarian for Concert

If you live in California, chances are you’ve heard about the latest Morrissey drama. Further, if you’ve even heard of Morrissey – you probably know how much of a hard-core vegetarian he is.

Morrissey will be playing Los Angeles’ Staples Center on March 1st. Earlier this week, Pitchfork reported that the mega venue agreed to make all of their vendors in and around the venue vegetarian for his show.

(Side note: Interestingly, when Paul McCartney made the same request, Staples Center denied him).

However, not long after Morrissey’s initial press later, Staples Center released their own statement – which contradicted Morrissey’s. The venue stated that it would not actually be 100% vegetarian but they would simply be adding more vegetarian options. The backstage catering however would be complete vegetarian.

If Morrissey does make it to the show in time for next weeks show Staples Center and Goldenvoice have agreed to donate a portion of ticket sales to PETA.

However, Morrissey did not take kindly to the Staples Center press release. He then released his own statement shortly after,

Reports that the Staples Center will not be 100% vegetarian on March 1st are playfully untrue. Contractually, all McDonalds vendors shall be closed down, and the only thing burning shall be my heart.

No other press releases have been released as of yet. This story seems far from over however so keep an eye on mxdwn for more updates.
