Coachella 2013 Lineup Announced Featuring Blur, The Stone Roses and Phoenix

It’s finally here! After much anticipation (and rumors) the 2013 lineup has finally been revealed. This years headliners will be The Stone Roses, Phoenix, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The festival has continued to grow in it’s fourteen years and this year is no exception. Several heavy hitters are featured on the lineup such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, Johnny Marr, and the xx.

Postal Service fans will also be excited to know that the Coachella rumors were true. Unfortunately all the fans holding out for those Rolling Stones rumors will be disappointed. However, there are several bands that make Coachella’s lineup especially stacked in 2013.

It has been several years since The Stone Roses and Blur have toured on American soil. Just last year, The Stone Roses reunited to play in Warrington, England – their first gig in 16 years. The band haven’t played in the United States since May of 1995. While Damon Albarn has appeared at Coachella recently (with Gorillaz in 2010, and with The Good, the Bad and the Queen in 2009), Blur has not played as a full band in America since 2003.

Of course Coachella is also famous for it’s reunions. This year, the festival is seeing reunions from Jurassic 5, Violent Femmes, and again, the Postal Service. mxdwn favorites How to Destroy Angels and Puscifer are also featured at the festival.

Most of these bands didn’t even hit the rumor mill, making them especially exciting additions to the lineup. Former Velvet Underground frontman, Lou Reed, was an especially surprising addition since some of his more recent work has been limited to lectures. However, we can only imagine what kind of material, and guest spots, Lou Reed will have during his set. Perhaps an on-stage collaboration with Metallica?

It also seems to be the year of the favorites, with many bands returning to Coachella. Most of the bands seem to be repeat offenders at Coachella. However, there are some new names including Divine Fits, and the Lumineers.

If you didn’t already purchase layaway tickets, passes for both weekends go on sale January 29th at 10am. Unfortunately you can no longer purchase layaway tickets. With the general sale this year, tickets for weekend 1 must be purchased with a shuttle pass or a car camping pass. So factor that into your Coachella budget if you’re wanting to go to Weekend 1. Passes for Weekend 1 (with the car camping or shuttle pass) will be $434 while GA tickets will be $349. Goldenvoice has a new feature for ticket pricing in 2013: all the fees are included with the ticket price. So, the price you see is the price you pay.

Also, if you’re a Coachella newbie – make sure to set up an account with FrontGate Tickets before hand. It definitely quickens the process and lessens the risk of getting booted out of the system. Also for you newbies, be prepared to wait to buy tickets. The system is famously crowded every year.
