The famed musician’s career spanned over eight decades, wherein he earned many awards along the way, including three Grammys and India’s highest civil honor, the Bharat Ratna. Shankar is survived by his wife, Sukanya, and daughters Anoushka Shankar Wright and jazz–pop musician Norah Jones. Below is the sitar player performing at the Concert for Bangladesh, a charity concert organized by himself and friend George Harrison. The performances were later compiled into a triple album of the same name, The Concert for Bangladesh, whose proceeds benefit the South Asian country to this day.
