Pussy Riot Appeals Conviction After Sentenced To Two Years
The three members of the Russian punk rock band Pussy Riot have filed an appeal over their conviction leading into their two-year prison sentence. Their lawyer confirmed last week that their appeal was submitted to the Khamovniki district court and a decision should be made within a ten day period, according to the Associated Press.

The sentencing for the three members came on August 17th, after being detained for five months for performing an anti-Putin song inside of a Moscow cathedral. They were arrested for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.”
According to Reuters, the Russian police are seeking out as many as ten other members of the band who took part in the hooliganisms. Two of the members have reportedly fled Russia and are currently in hiding.
Following their conviction, the band has released a new single titled “Putin Puts Up The Fires.”
Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth has joined the recent list of artists in support of Pussy Riot in a video interview with the non-profit organization Exploded View. Watch the interview below.
