Minus The Bear – Infinity Overhead

Seattle indie rockers Minus The Bear released their fifth full-length Infinity Overhead, an album that showcases the band’s talent after playing together for more than 10 years. Produced by former keyboardist Matt Bayles, Infinity Overhead doesn’t hit you like hit-album Highly Refined Pirates hits you; instead listeners get a mixture of the upbeat material found on Pirates combined with a more mature sound.

The single “Steel And Blood” opens the album and will immediately satisfy the ears of Minus The Bear fans old and new, containing Jake Snider’s always-dreamy vocals and that perfect beat the band manages to find all the time. The next track “Lies And Eyes” is just as lovable. It’s catchy, fine-tuned and riddled with the cool riffs MTB are known for.

“Heaven Is A Ghost Town” is the eeriest of the songs, being lyrically deeper and featuring the signature high-pitched keyboards. “Diamond Lightning” is another slow tune that sounds like it could have fit on Planet Of Ice.

The album ends with a big strong bang on “Cold Company.” Dave Knudson rips it up on the guitar and would almost steal the whole song if it weren’t for Erin Tate pounding on his drums and Snider belting out lyrics with the kind of feeling that makes your neck hairs stand up.

Happy to report that MTB have nothing to be ashamed of on album number five. Not sure if it’s the most appealing of their collection, but a solid album no less.
