The Slow Burn
With a name and style likely to inspire WTF reactions, moog-aholic Com Truise drops his debut album, Galactic Melt. Thought mid-fi synth-wave is something Seth Haley has been doing for years, this only comes after his rising in popularity with a remix featured on the Tron: Legacy soundtrack. Attention, hip-hop aficionados: Cali native DJ/rapper/producer/multi-instrumentalist/coolness-exuder Madlib (aka Beat Konducta) is playing a show at the Echoplex on December 10- and believe me, you won’t want to miss this. His shows lately have been far and few, and this one will be the grand finale after his three-stop Medicine Show Live mini tour. Extra incentive: he’ll be releasing exclusive never-been-heard tunes from “Medicine Show #13: Black Tape” there as well.

For Emma Was Forever Ago
Everything changed about Bon Iver after For Emma, Forever Ago. By now everyone’s heard the story of the months-long voluntary solitude he embarked on in the woods of north Wisconsin. His songs have been heavily licensed for primetime dramas, he let “Woods” get taken over by Kanye West and guested on the hip-hop maven’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and he’s appeared on all the huge festival lineups: Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Sasquatch, etc. The success has been a bit of a surprise, and the fans were rabid for his follow-up. His self-titled sophomore effort, out since June, has been successful in many critics’ eyes but it’s not anything like For Emma, for better or worse. Read more…
