Brooklyn Based band Yeasayer hasn’t released much material since their hit album Odd Blood, aside from a Record Store Day EP entitled End Blood. This drought is scheduled to end, however, in 2012.

In a recent interview with Spin, the band revealed that they have over 22 new songs that are ready for release. Most bands would whittle this number of songs down to a standard length LP, but Yeasayer plans to release one standard, pop album, along with an internet-released soundtrack-sounding bonus album.

Chris Keating, the band’s singer, insists that they won’t put out more of the same tracks as their previous albums, “if it sounds too much like something we’ve done in the past, we don’t do it.” He claims that “It’s like an Aaliyah album if you played it backwards and slowed it down. Or David Bowie’s Lodger. Those two are major influences.”

Any fan of Yeasayer knows that they have changed their sound greatly between their two already-released LPs, and that a radical new sound should be no surprise. 2012 should be a good year.
