Take Us to Portugal and Tell Us Your Woes
It’s taken some time, but The Walkmen seem to have hit their stride. On their sixth album Lisbon, they’ve continued to hone a sound they’ve been working towards for the past couple of records. The result is an impressive set of new songs. Read more…

Seaholm Power Plant
Ticket info (can be purchased only at the box office)

This is hands down the most awesome NYE celebration going down ATX wide tonight!
They’ve turned the Seaholm power plant into a virtual space station, and it’s the very last NYE bash at the old girl, so send her out right.
NASA is DJSqueak E. Clean and DJ Zegon, who met in Sao Paulo and bonded over a mutual love and appreciation of rare brazilian soul and funk. They create crazy unique musical landscapes that mesh unlikely genres and artists together into a beautiful flow. Their debut album The Spirit of Apollo has a very impressive who’s who list of collaborations ranging from Nick of The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s to M.I.A to Ghostface Killah.
Rueben Wu is the original founding member of the amazingness that is electro-new wave group Ladytron. Infectious pop beats married faithfully to vintage sweat dripping analogue. I’m sure he’ll rep their sound well tonight. It says on the official flyer, ‘Rueben Wue & more TBA’ , so expect some pleasing surprises.

Red 7
Ticket info (box office only)

The Adolescents have been hardcore punk-rocking it since the ’80’s, and they definitely know how to do it well. Made up of members of Agent Orange and Social Distortion, they’ve been a ’supergroup’ from the beginning. Like most bands who grab that title, there have been a million break ups, makeups, and shakeups in the bands history, but they’ve been doing it steady since ‘01 and will soon have a new album for listener consumption in the new year. This is sure to be a good time! For those old enough to hit the bar and you young ones too since it’s listed as an all ages show. A loud, sweaty, moshin’, rockin’ way to tell ‘10 to suck it and give a big fuck ya to ‘11. (Did I make that punk rock enough for this post?)

Wistfully Sweet
The latest release from Scottish indie balladeers Belle and Sebastian offers nothing shockingly new, but it avoids the abundant clichés surrounding its subject matter. Write About Love is a mellow, likable album about “love in any form, any tense, as long as it makes sense,” as the band announces in the album’s title track. Read more…
