The Killers already knew that the whole post-punk/New Wave revival shtick wouldn’t last long, which best explains their drastic switch of styles from Hot Fuss to Sam’s Town. It’s too bad The Bravery never got the memo. In what seems like nothing more than regurgitated funk, the New York City quintet’s third album Stir The Blood takes listeners back to times when The Rapture was cool, even relevant; a pre-indie era when brainless dance rhythms trumped smart rock, layered vocal harmonies, and songs about oxford commas. Sophisticated Ridiculousness
Dethalbum II is the second release by fictional metal band Dethklok, from the Adult Swim cartoon comedy show Metalocalypse. Part Spinal Tap and part decent heavy metal band, it’s kind of amazing that Dethklok had a first album, let alone a second one considering that they aren’t even real. But Dethklok’s first album was one of the best-selling metal albums of all time so there is obviously more to this band than just jokes. Read more…

Your humble author first saw Mew on one of those corporate-sponsored, throw-any-three-bands-together tours which are all the rage nowadays, as the Danish trio supported their fourth album And the Glass Handed Kites. Immersed in kaleidoscopic projections as swirling as their music, one wondered if this was what it was like to watch a young Pink Floyd figure out how to give it their all. That night may not have been overpowering evidence of Mew’s presence—stealing stage thunder from Kasabian, as they did, is no struggle—but their newest album should provide them with an infusion of fresh interest.
