Motown Collects Every No. 1 Ever

On December 9, in honor of its 50th anniversary, legendary label Motown will release a collection of every one of its chart toppers stateside and beyond. Simply titled Motown: The Complete No. 1’s, the 10-disc set will feature the usual Motown suspects like Stevie Wonder, The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, The Temptations, The Supremes, Jr. Walker and The Four Tops alongside the likes of later Motown stars like Johnny Gill, Jodeci, El Debarge and Rick James.

N.A.S.A. to Launch Debut Record Next February

October 15th, 2008

American DJ/producer, Squeak E. Clean, and Brazilian beat master, DJ Zegon, have teamed up and are working under the name N.A.S.A. Their debut record The Spirit of Apollo is set to drop in February 2009.

In a statement, the group has plans to, “Test the boundaries of the universe by dropping Brazilian beats.”

Album guests include: Tom Waits, Kanye West, Karen O, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, David Byrne, MIA, RZA, George Clinton and many more. Read more…

Peaches Back in Studio

The gender-bending queen of electronica is apparently back in the studio, working on her follow up to 2006’s ImPeach My Bush.

A title has yet to be announced, but expect a tentative release of early next year. Word on the street is that the new record features tracks with Simian Mobile Disco and Digitalism. Read more…

Animal Collective To Release New Record

Beastie Boys Announce ”Get Out and Vote” Tour

The rappers released a blast email this morning that said, ”This election is too important to stay at home. We hope that you can come out, have a nice night, dance, sing, get your freak on, and then wake up the next morning and get everyone that you possibly can to get out and vote.”

So far only three dates have been announced but more are promised. They are as follows:

October 28 – Richmond, VA – Richmond Coliseum (With Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Jack Johnson and Santogold)

Chinese Democracy To See Light of Day in November

A source close to Guns N’ Roses told Billboard Magazine that Sunday, November 23 will be the release date for the long awaited Chinese Democracy.

In the days leading up to, Democracy’s release, the track “Shackler’s Revenge” will debut in the video game Rock Band 2 and a part of the track “If the World” will play during the end credits of the film, “Body of Lies”. Read more…

Rock From A Jam Band

The vocal stylings of Al Schnier, Chuck Garvey, and Rob Derhak combine with emphatic rock to create perhaps one of the most unique moe. albums in recent years, Sticks and Stones. The influences on this band are rather traditional, stemming from both straightforward rockers (The Rolling Stones) and jammers (The Grateful Dead), yet the recording of the album was decidedly less so: Eighty percent of it was recorded in the same session it was created, just weeks after moe.down 2007.
