TV on the Radio – Dear Science

September 26th, 2008

Listen. Think. Smile. Repeat

TV on the Radio have reached a musical zenith most indie bands only dream about in the van between shows. Brooklyn’s art-rock kings are critically acclaimed and wildly popular yet never commercially saturated. Their live performances amaze and their two previous releases litter Top 10s like McDonald’s wrappers on Times Square. They effortlessly blazed through talk of the sophomore slump that commonly sinks musical acts emerging with the same heaps of hype. Now they return with third full-length effort Dear Science. Junior Senior S-S-Stop the Beat

September 26th, 2008

A bitter pill for the world to swallow comes in the form of Swedish indie/dance/rap duo Junior Senior calling it a day. There are two good things coming out of the split; the fact that, according to the duo, they don’t hate each other and that music will still come via their respective solo projects. Jesper “Junior” Mortensen’s project I Scream Ice Cream released its first sets of musics notes in June while Jeppe “Senior” Laursen continues to DJ while working on his debut effort which will feature the first single “Big Boy.”

This split comes after a decade of creating dancing feet around the world together in a partnership that yielded the albums D-D-Don’t Stop the Beat and Hey Hey My My Yo Yo. The apex of their popularity came with the success of the downright contagious “Move Your Feet,” from their debut album. Read more…

Queens of the Stone Age – Era Vulgaris

September 25th, 2008

God Save the Queens

Era Vulgaris translates to “Common Age.” It’s Queens Of The Stone Age’s shorthand for the debased era in which we live and is the name of their fifth studio album. Instantly it has less studio luster than their previous two efforts. Also, they’ve forgone the driving ‘follow me!’ drum rhythm that Dave Grohl’s one-album stint lent to their sound. Although ‘The Grohl effect’ helped launch them into popular Rock consciousness, they’ve veered away from the more regimented hard metal direction in favor of a slightly more diverse melody. The heavy, hooky, guitars and insistent drums are ever present but they sit deeper within a new found layer of electrical fuzz and wigged-out effects. Read more…

Radiohead Calls On Fans Again

September 25th, 2008

In very much the same way as they did with the first In Rainbows single, “Nude,” Radiohead are offering their new single, “Reckoner,” to fans via iTunes in stems (the different instruments/elements) for remixing purposes.

As with “Nude,” fans have the opportunity to upload their remixes here and be judged by the rest of the Radiohead-loving world. There is also the ability for remixers to create a widget that can be placed on their website so their friends can vote for their version of “Reckoner.”

Diplo and James Holden got the ball rolling with their versions of the cut. Read more…
