UGK are #1

Following a five-year absence from the music charts, rap artists UGK’s new album Underground Kingz debuted at No. 1, selling over 160,000 copies in the United States.

This was the best sales week ever for UGK and its members, Bun B and Pimp C, with the previous best being 2001’s Dirty Money, which sold 98,000 copies. Read more…

Billy Joel Orchestrates His Way to Fame

Billy Joel will be performing with the Philadelphia Orchestra on January 26, 2008 to celebrate the 151st anniversary of the Academy of Music.

McCartney And Ozzy Duet

Groban Sells 757,000 Copies

Josh Groban set a record with his Christmas album, Noel this past week placing number 1 for the fifth week in a row. Noel passed Elvis’ Christmas Album, released in 1957 which held the number 1 spot for 4 nonconsecutive weeks. Read more…

Def Jam President, Jay-Z, Steps Down

Noting that it’s time to take on new challenges, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter announced (along with Universal Music Group) on Decemeber 24 that he will step down as Def Jam Records president when his contract expires this year. Jay-Z has been president of the label for three years and, in the statement announcing his depature, he acknowledged the artists and executives he had worked with during that time. Read more…
